20151203 (psalm for today)

It's good to remember Psalms were written by David, the Lord's prayer by Jesus

Hold us not accountable

For our mediocrity O Lord

Tear our enemies with your

Teeth O Mighty One before

They give us what for

Do not fail to hear our pleas

O You Who have snatched us

Mightily from the foreigners

Who envy our values

Our BMWs our McMansions

Our gorgeous weatherwomen

Our rock stars our bechained

Rappers though we dabbled on

Tinder we do not forget our

Promises altogether

We felt guilty guiltier

Than our enemies those

Unlearned simpletons

Repel them at our gates O

Protector these rabble whose

Islands we have washed away

We are always your people

Even when we slip up we

Do not forget our covenant

It’s still there sitting on the

Bookshelf the maid dusts it

Religiously keep us we pray

Safe from the scourge of Babylon

Those ragheads who bow five

Times daily to that other God

Allan I think I’d bow five times

Easy if that’s all it took but

You’ve got churches with mortgages

Endowment campaigns grounds

To tend Sunday schools to staff

You know it takes money time

Is money my time your money

It’s not such a great deal when you

Think about it so please hold up

Your end of the contract we

Worship with bucks so take care

Of us You are the Good One

And mighty in forgiveness You

Alone know how badly we have

Stumbled before and in Your

Steadfast kindness You have

Forgotten our flaws we’ll

Come around eventually and

Your powers of forgiveness

Are infinite we can’t wear You

Out you’ll always be there

We’re your people remember

Did we ask for special treatment

Hardly but now that we’re

Used to it can You deny us

It would look bad on your

Resume lets His favored perish

Now when we need You You’re

Going on vacation to let us

Dangle perilously in the wind

We’re sorry now and when things

Quiet down a bit it won’t be like

All the old times this time

We mean it
