I’m glad we’re not Turkey yet,
But under a President Trump we
Could be. He’s erratic enough to
Think reversals common to every
Leader could pitch him into a
Conspiratorial mode. He’s already
Suspecting a loss would be due
To a rigged election. I don’t think
He has the internal stature to think
People might honestly dislike him,
Dislike his ignorance, his bigotry,
His simplistic analyses, and his
Befuddlement before international
Issues which will not yield to his
Yelling. I think people are even
Sensing his limited command of
The English language. Campaigning
For the presidency exceeds his
Capacity. He is happily bounding
From gaffe to gaffe and appears
Unconcerned he is playing the fool.
Someone whom he trusts (if there
Is any such—Ivanka, perhaps)
Must grab his ear without delay to
Tell him his outbursts are shedding
All but the fringe—birthers, KKK,
Racists, conspiracy theorists, the
Foil-hatted alien chasers, but I
Doubt he has taken in all of his
Family. While they would know
On which side their bread was
Buttered at home in the company,
The privacy of the voting booth
Might inspire rebellion in even
The most timid of hearts (Paul
Ryan’s). A voice deep inside
Will hopefully rise, “I can’t
Do this to my country!” They
Will hold their noses and flip
The switch that will send Hillary’s
Head through the glass ceiling of
National politics and bring papa
Back from the high blood pressure
Heights of constant scrutiny at
Least down to where he can breathe
Comfortably: where land is pried
From its owners, apartments
Developed, investors swindled,
Contractors stiffed, bankruptcies
Filed, and C-listers fired weekly
Just for fun. In short where
God’s in his heaven, and all’s right
With the world according to Trump.
