The future’s no panacea
For what’s time-written done
When we first purposely
Angered our parents we might
With luck be forgiven but
Its residues however faint
Still echo in memory
The times we cheated weren’t caught
Cast shadows forever we can’t outrun
Who doesn’t want to be freshly born
Set out anew saved justified
The promise of every religion
Accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Can it be real if your tabula’s rasa-d
Reset like a watch that’s lost time
Only to lose time again
Better that even self-inflicted scars
Never leave though they fade
Remembrance is all that defines us
Steal all the stones from the fence
You can’t farm the foundation
It’s a lie that we’re known by our promise
Our wishes intentions
Cut that life short then count
The trophies you would have won
Had you not blown out your knee
Gotten on drugs married unwisely
Bought the wrong stock
The people who ask What have you
Done lately have a good point
Dreams feed your spirit
But it’s rock hard results that’ll
Sway them to give you
The grant job loan
Unless you’re a great grifter
Who can sell words for gold
We can’t really add glory
With more sunsets
Yes they might vary but truly
Once you’ve seen one
You have seen them all
