Every day is like diving
Into a blue brilliant pool
The sparkle of crystal-like flash water feathers
The result of a perfect fall
We may not notice the first time
But we accustom to excellence
New goals must be posted
A tighter tuck a quieter splash
The flip first once than twice
Then rotating left or right
Before a clean entrance to the blue deep
It’s harder and harder to celebrate
Another’s gain unless we surrender
Our own prowess and join in their joy
At surpassing their obstacles
What costly loss to set self aside
Isn’t it really all that we have
The mother the father who takes up their child
Sings lullabies has crossed to a road
Not of their making
The lover who
Struggles to give something new
Praises the other by taking on
So unrequired a task
Sure flowers candy expected
Now and then but not gloves hat
That match her new dress
Or pearl earrings she saw in a window
Or reading to the blind elderly
Or taking in an orphan
When they praise you as gifted
Isn’t the grace there to be shared
Sitting alone in a tower growing
Increasingly powerful what good comes
Of closing the shutters
Ships will crash at night on the rocks
Unless you let your light shine
