Republicans have gotten what
They wanted: a nominee for
All intents and purposes whom
In good conscience—if indeed
They have a conscience—
They have a conscience—
They should not support,
An ignorant and obnoxious
Man whose atavistic appeals to
The worst of historical American
Prejudices has brought him within
Range of the Big Red Button that
Dwells out of sight in a drawer
Of the president’s desk in the
Oval office. Whether the big
Money powers ever thought this
Was the risk of dumbing-down
Our educational system, it is
What should concern us this
Electoral season. Technically
There are still some outs though
Few and unlikely to affect the
Worst outcome. Supposing the
Average American citizens fall
For his bombastic baloney and
Elect him by the popular count,
(1)The electors of that two-bit
College are not actually
College are not actually
Bound to vote for him—really.*
I was surprised to hear of this
Option. They could join in a
Revolt and elect someone more
To their liking. And as for his
Predictable suits going all the
Way to the Supreme Court, we
Have seen (Bush v. Gore, 2000)
The Supreme Court can go
Its own way, stripping him of
Any and every protest. (2) They
Can inveigle a group of credible
Psychiatrists to declare him
Insane, therefore ineligible to
Hold the office. Or (3) most
Likely, (since it was done before
With Ronald Reagan) they can
Keep him tightly in control by
Allowing only their (the monied)
Experts to ever come close
To him for opinions and
To him for opinions and
Guidance—the chicanery option.
Maybe a little pentobarbital in
His oatmeal every morning to
Keep him malleable. Like I say,
It worked with Reagan.
