20151113 (superstition)

Fridays the thirteenth occur with

Sufficient regularity to keep the

Superstition bumping along poor

Soul is the one whose bad luck

Befalls on this not quite auspicious

Day for they are most tempted

To succumb to the peril of

Coincidence the rest of humankind

Who have been spared might

Shrug or even give a sigh of

Relief still it’s more of a joke

Day on which to suffer minor

Setbacks some plaster fell one

Stock in your portfolio tanked

Not like your sister died that

Would be tragic no a brake job

A D on a book report or your

Pants split as you were stretching

Up to board a bus even multiples

Of superstitions wouldn’t count

Such as crossing the path of a

Black cat while walking under a

Ladder on Friday the thirteenth

That kind of thing might slow down

The mildly superstitious applying

An eence of skepticism should

Reveal there’s nothing about a cat

A ladder or a date on a calendar

That bears on the slightest of your

Activities keep your balance

Wear good shoes while walking

Look down keep your head up

Hell with the date and you

Should stay upright and safe

Same thing goes for wearing a

St. Christopher medal scapular

Crucifix regular scriptural reading

But if you really prefer worry

There’s always lightning nuclear

War asteroids any one which could

Seriously make for a bad day

As for the asteroids if it were

Going to happen it should have

By now well it did back in the day

When the dinosaurs were too busy

Making movies with Steven Spielberg

To notice the sky exploded for a

Century or so poor things no coats

And all but fortunately for us the

Mousy mammals who burrowed

In the earth survived dominated and

Became us and we’ve been kind of

Riding our luck in asteroids soon

Bruce Willis will be too old to

Save us again any time soon now

For atomic death which we know

From dropping those bombs on

Japan these could pose a real

Problem but only if we get something

Less than complete Armageddon

One bomb here or there might not

Be so bad a little more strontium

Ninety in our cereal milk regret for

The people of Wheresitstan where

It fell we know from counting

The weapons out there total

Armageddon poses no problem

Either as we’ll all be dead

And be spared the suffering

Of gradual global warming

Have a nice day and

Good luck
